High-Pressure Autoclave for Cement Expansion Testing
The High-Pressure Autoclave is an essential piece of equipment designed to accelerate the testing of Portland cement's long-term stability. It effectively estimates the delayed expansion caused by the slow hydration of calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO). By subjecting mortar prism samples to controlled high-pressure steam, this unit simulates long-term conditions in a fraction of the time, allowing for a precise determination of their volume constancy.
This autoclave supports testing in accordance with AASHTO T107 and is compatible with sample sizes specified by both ASTM and DIN standards. The spacious, high-pressure steam compartment can accommodate a specially designed sample holder for either eight ASTM-compliant prisms (1" x 1" x 11.25" / 25 x 25 x 285mm) or six DIN-standard prisms (40 x 40 x 160mm).
Key Specifications & Features:
- Performance: With a total capacity of 7.8 liters, the unit operates at a maximum pressure of 360 psi (25 bar) and can reach temperatures up to 482°F (250°C), ensuring rigorous and effective testing.
- Safety and Monitoring: For precise control and user safety, the autoclave is equipped with two dedicated gauges for monitoring internal temperature and pressure. A built-in safety pop valve automatically releases excess pressure, preventing over-pressurization. The pressure chamber is also supplied with a security test certificate, confirming its compliance with the EN Pressure Equipment Directive.
- Electrical: The 120V 60Hz model includes an auxiliary voltage converter to meet standard power requirements.
- Dimensions: The overall dimensions of the unit are 20.5" in diameter by 44" in height (550mm dia x 1120mm).
For proper sample placement, use the H-3241.1 (ASTM) or H-3241.2 (DIN) prism bar frames with this autoclave (frames sold separately).
