Carbolite Digital Over-Temperature Protection
Carbolite's digital over-temperature protection system offers an independent safety feature crucial for laboratory and industrial heating equipment. This system operates separately from the main temperature controller, providing a reliable fail-safe to prevent overheating.
What is Over-Temperature Protection (OTP)?
Over-Temperature Protection (OTP) is a critical safety mechanism designed to protect equipment and its contents from damage caused by excessive heat. If the primary temperature controller fails or a fault occurs that causes the temperature to rise uncontrollably, the OTP system will automatically shut off power to the heating elements once a user-defined setpoint is exceeded.
How does Carbolite's system work?
- Independent Operation: It uses its own thermocouple and controller, ensuring it functions even if the primary control system fails.
- User-Defined Setpoint: You can set the OTP trip temperature just above the normal operating temperature. This ensures a quick response without interfering with standard processes.
- Automatic Shutdown: When the trip temperature is reached, the OTP system cuts power to the heaters and often triggers an alarm to alert the operator.
- Reset Function: The system typically needs to be manually reset after an over-temperature event, ensuring that the cause of the overheating is investigated and resolved before the equipment is used again.
This essential feature safeguards valuable samples, protects the equipment itself from thermal damage, and enhances operator safety, making it a standard requirement in many quality control and laboratory protocols.
