Acme Penetrometer Bench-Top Model – Mortar Penetration Resistance Tester

Acme Mortar Penetrometer, Bench-Top with Stainless Steel Penetration Needles

Acme Penetrometer measures penetration resistance to determine set times of concrete mixes, mortars, and grouts with a slump greater than zero. It also determines how variables, including temperature, cement, concrete mixture, additions, and admixtures upon the time of setting and hardening time of concrete. The device is capable of testing mortar that is sieved from the concrete mixture, providing comprehensive analysis of how various factors affect the setting time and hardening of concrete.

The penetrometer has a cast aluminum base and a set of stainless steel needles in a wooden block. The load is applied hydraulically, allowing for controlled and consistent testing. A 200lbf (890N) capacity load cell displays loads on a capacity gauge graduated in 2lbf divisions, providing precise readings. The innovative penetrometer design features a longer gear rack, making it easy to operate. A set of six needles which includes 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/10, 1/20, and 1/40in² (645, 323, 161, 65, 32, 16mm²) bearing area, enabling multiplication to a maximum reading of 8,000lbf. All needles are the same length, so settings are consistent during testing. Also included are 100 laboratory data reporting forms.

Features:

  • Measures penetration resistance for set time determinations of concrete mixes, mortars, and grouts

  • Determines how variables such as; temperature, cement, mixture proportions, additions, and admixtures affect concrete hardening of concrete

  • Has a cast aluminum base and a longer gear rack for added ease of use

  • 200lbf (890N) capacity load cell with capacity gauge graduated for precise readings

  • All needles are the same length for consistent settings

Includes:

Capacity 200lbf (890N)

Dimensions 10 x 13 x 31in (250 x 330 x 787mm), WxDxHAASHTO T 197/T 197M ASTM C 403/C 403M

During operation, pressures read from the gauge do not change the settings for needle insertion as all needles are the same length.

Applications and Benefits

The Acme Penetrometer is for testing mortar sieved from concrete mixtures with slump greater than zero. It is an essential tool to determine the effects of temperature, cement mixture proportions, additions, and admixtures on the set time and hardening of concrete. It is used in various industries such as construction, civil engineering, and materials testing. The benefits of Acme Penetrometer are:

How it Works

The Acme Penetrometer measures the penetration resistance of mortar sieved from concrete mixtures. It has a hydraulic reaction-type mechanism that applies a controlled force to the needles which are inserted into the mortar sample. The force is measured by a 2 lbf gauge and the gear rack makes it easy to operate. The 6 needles allow multiplication to 8000 lbf for accurate results.

Resources and Support

The Acme Penetrometer is designed with user in mind and has comprehensive support. Each unit comes with a set of stainless steel penetration needles in a wooden block for easy access and storage. This makes it easy to select the right needle for the test and determine the effects of temperature, cement mixture proportions, additions or admixtures on the setting and hardening of concrete.

Ordering and Support

Ordering the Acme Penetrometer is easy – just contact our sales team or visit our website to get started. We offer competitive pricing and excellent customer support from initial inquiry to post purchase support. Our customer support team is familiar with the technical specifications and applications of the Acme Penetrometer. If you have questions about how cement proportions and admixtures affect the setting and hardening time of concrete or need help with reading the 2 lbf gauge, our team is here to help. The 6 needles allow for multiplication to 8000 lbf making it suitable for a wide range of testing scenarios for mortars and concrete with slump greater than zero, as well as for measuring air content using specialized meters.

The 200lbf (890N) capacity and AASHTO T197 compliance means your laboratory can measure penetration resistance and set times for concrete, mortars and grouts. We can assist with using the 2 lbf gauge, determining the effects of proportions and admixtures and accurate test data reporting. With our dedicated customer service you can be assured of reliable results and ongoing support for all your concrete testing needs.
