80mL Classic Grinding Bowl, Hardmetal Tungsten Carbide

The 80mL Classic Grinding Bowl is an essential component for use with the Fritsch Classic Planetary Mill. It is designed to safely contain the grinding balls and the material being processed. This bowl is constructed from hardmetal tungsten carbide, a material known for its extreme hardness and resistance to abrasion, making it ideal for grinding very hard, brittle, or abrasive materials with minimal contamination. Each grinding bowl set comes complete with a matching lid and a secure seal ring to ensure a closed, loss-free grinding process.

Key Considerations for Optimal Grinding:

  • Material Selection: The material of the grinding bowl must be harder than the sample material to prevent abrasion and contamination. Tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials available, suitable for a wide range of demanding applications.
  • Balanced Operation: When using multi-station mills, it is crucial to operate with balanced loads. The total weight of the bowl, lid, balls, and sample should be consistent across all grinding stations to ensure smooth operation and prevent damage to the mill. It is recommended to use a counterweight, such as fine sand in a separate jar of equal mass, to achieve a perfect balance.
  • Grinding Balls: Please note that Grinding Balls are sold separately and must be purchased to complete your grinding setup. For tungsten carbide bowls, tungsten carbide grinding balls are recommended.

Alternative Materials:

  • Agate Bowls: For softer, medium-hard, or fibrous samples where metal contamination is a concern, Agate grinding bowls are a suitable alternative.

Specifications:

  • Nominal Bowl Size: 80mL
  • Working Capacity: 10–30mL (This is the recommended volume for the sample material to ensure efficient grinding)
