Increasing the quantity of balls typically reduces grinding times and produces finer particle size distributions, up to an optimum loading point. A crucial guideline is to ensure the total volume of grinding balls and sample does not exceed two-thirds of the grinding bowl's capacity, leaving the remaining one-third for effective grinding action and impact.

To prevent wear and ensure efficient grinding, always select grinding bowls and balls made from materials harder than your sample. For extremely hard samples, consider pairing these Zirconium Oxide balls with corundum bowls for enhanced performance. While Zirconium Oxide offers excellent chemical inertness, it's important to be mindful of potential cross-contamination when using dissimilar materials, especially with sensitive analytical applications.

This 40mm Zirconium Oxide grinding ball is ideally suited for 500ml grinding bowls. Balls with a 3mm diameter and smaller are supplied in packs of 100 pieces. All other larger balls are sold individually. Please note that Classic Grinding Bowls or Premium Grinding Bowls are purchased separately.
