The 4000g Vacuum Pycnometer is an essential piece of equipment for accurately determining the maximum specific gravity (Gmm) of bituminous paving mixtures, also known as the Rice Test. This pycnometer boasts a large 7.5 x 9-inch (191 x 229mm) diameter-by-depth aluminum volumetric canister, capable of accommodating specimens up to 4,000g. This increased capacity allows for testing larger, more representative samples of asphalt mixtures, which is particularly beneficial for mixes containing larger aggregate sizes.
The unit's versatility is enhanced by the inclusion of two lids. The transparent acrylic vacuum lid provides a clear view of the sample during de-airing, allowing the technician to monitor the process for the complete removal of air bubbles. The set also includes a ground-glass aluminum lid with a built-in capillary bore, which allows the pycnometer to be used for specific gravity determinations of compacted bituminous specimens (Gmb), aggregates, and soil, making it a multi-purpose tool in any materials testing laboratory.
All necessary accessories are included for immediate setup and operation. The package comes with 3/8in x 48in (9.5 x 1,219mm) ID x L vacuum tubing, a quick-disconnect fitting for easy connection to a vacuum source, and a 3/8in (9.5mm) threaded vacuum aspirator with a faucet attachment.
