60psf Basic Swell Consolidometer, 2.5in Diameter

The Self-contained Basic Swell Consolidometer is designed for conducting swell and expansion tests on soil specimens with diameters of 2.44in (62mm) or 2.50in (63.5mm). This user-friendly tool delivers fast, reliable results to predict soil swell potential without requiring a separate loading frame.

Soil specimens are compacted into a durable stainless steel compaction ring, which is then placed in the Consolidometer between porous stones. The sample is loaded to 60psf or 100psf (2.87 or 4.7kPa) using the included loading weight. After setting a dial indicator to measure the initial height, water is introduced to begin the test.

For efficient sample preparation, additional stainless steel compaction rings are available. The Permeability Compaction Hammer (sold separately) is designed to compact soil samples into the compaction ring and includes adjustable drop heights (4 to 8in / 102 to 203mm) and sliding weights (100g and 1kg).
