How the Speedy 2000 Moisture Tester Works

The Speedy 2000 operates using a sealed, low-pressure vessel. A pre-weighed 12g sample is placed inside the chamber along with a measured amount of calcium carbide reagent (sold separately). When the vessel is sealed and agitated, the reagent reacts with free moisture in the sample to produce acetylene gas. The resulting pressure increase is directly proportional to the moisture content.
