Humboldt H-4210.356, Shelby Tube, 3.5in Diameter x 36in Long

Shelby tube samplers are thin-walled, hollow steel tubes, which are driven into the ground to extract a relatively undisturbed soil sample for use in laboratory tests used to determine density, permeability, compressibility and strength.

Each tube has one end that is chamfered to form a cutting edge and the upper end includes holes for securing the tube to a drive head. Shelby tubes are useful for collecting soils that are particularly sensitive to sampling disturbance, including fine cohesive soils and clays. The tubes can also be used to transport samples back to the lab as well.

Note: Size is OD. All tubes are 16 gauge steel.

3" and 5" tubes are galvanized

The Shelby Tube, with a diameter of 3.5 inches and a length of 36 inches, is a highly reliable and efficient tool used for extracting undisturbed soil samples from the ground. Manufactured by Humboldt, a trusted name in the field of geotechnical testing equipment, this Shelby Tube is a must-have for soil testing laboratories.

Made from thin-walled, hollow steel, these tubes are designed to ensure minimal disturbance during the sampling process. The chamfered cutting edge on one end of the tube allows for easy penetration into the ground, while the holes at the upper end provide a secure connection to the drive head. With its sturdy construction and precise dimensions, this Shelby Tube guarantees accurate and representative soil samples.

The main advantage of using Shelby tubes is their suitability for collecting sensitive soil samples that are prone to sampling disturbance. These include fine cohesive soils and clays, where traditional sampling methods may fail to provide reliable data. By using the Shelby Tube, you can obtain high-quality samples that accurately represent the in-situ conditions of the soil.

Aside from obtaining undisturbed soil samples, these tubes also serve as a convenient means of transporting the samples back to the laboratory for testing. This eliminates the need for transferring the soil to separate containers, reducing the risk of sample contamination and ensuring the integrity of the data.

Please note that the size mentioned refers to the outer diameter (OD) of the tube. All Shelby Tubes are made from durable 16 gauge steel. Furthermore, the 3" and 5" tubes are galvanized, providing additional protection against corrosion and enhancing their longevity.

To expand your geotechnical testing capabilities, be sure to explore our full range of Soil Permeameters. These permeameters are designed to measure the flow of fluids through soil samples, allowing you to assess their permeability properties accurately.

Invest in the Humboldt H-4210.356 Shelby Tube today and experience the efficiency and reliability that comes with using high-quality soil sampling equipment.
