Rainhart TEX-116E, Aggregate Wet Ball Mill
The Rainhart Aggregate Wet Ball Mill is used to determine the resistance of aggregate in flexible base materials to disintegration in water. These results are critical to determine if the base will crush, degrade, disintegrate and fail structurally prematurely. Simply place a sample in the rotating bucket with six steel charges. The bucket will rotate 600 times at 58-62 rpm for about 10 minutes. After the rotation is complete weigh the remaining aggregate and compare to the original weight to get the WBM value. A lower value means a tougher aggregate more resistant to abrasion, important for a good base.
While wet ball milling is great for making fine particles, wet and dry milling is often more efficient for materials that don’t need fine particles and can be cost effective in certain processes.
Wet Grinding
Wet grinding also known as wet media milling is a very effective process to reduce particles to very fine dimensions. This process involves suspending particles in a liquid medium which helps in dispersion and finer particle size. Wet grinding is very useful for making very fine particles with high surface area, that’s why it’s a preferred technique in many industries. From pharmaceuticals to cosmetics to food products, wet grinding process is required to make fine powders that meet strict quality standards.
How Wet Ball Milling Works
Wet ball milling is a type of wet grinding that uses a ball mill to achieve the desired particle size. The ball mill works on the principle of impact and attrition where the rotation of the drum causes the grinding media and the material to move together. This movement causes the material to be ground through dropping and squeezing. Wet ball milling is used to grind, blend and mix materials like chemicals, ores, pyrotechnics, paints and ceramics. The process is very efficient and can produce fine particles with a consistent particle size distribution.
Features and Benefits
Wet ball milling has several features and benefits that makes it a popular choice across many industries. Key features:
-
High Efficiency: Wet ball milling is efficient in producing fine particles with narrow particle size distribution.
-
Low Energy Consumption: Compared to dry milling, wet ball milling consumes less energy, cost effective.
-
Easy to Operate: The process is simple to operate, minimal training and expertise required.
-
Versatile: Wet ball milling can grind many types of materials, metals, minerals, ceramics.
The benefits are just as impressive:
-
Better Products: The process produces high quality products with consistent particle size and shape.
-
More Productivity: Wet ball milling can reduce time and energy to grind materials, increase productivity.
-
Less Waste: By minimizing the material to be discarded, wet ball milling reduces waste.
Applications of Rainhart TEX-116E
The Rainhart TEX-116E is a versatile wet ball mill for many applications. It is used in aggregate testing to determine the wet ball mill value of aggregate samples which is critical to determine the quality and durability of flexible base materials. The Rainhart TEX-116E is also used to test the wet ball mill value of soils and aggregates used in flexible base materials. Plus it can be mounted on a shelf or counter, makes it a convenient choice for laboratory testing.
