Proceq GP8800 Pro Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR): Comprehensive 5-Year Plan

The Proceq GP8800 Pro is a revolutionary ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system, designed for unmatched versatility and power in a compact, handheld form. It excels at quickly scanning tight spaces, curved surfaces, overhead areas, and locations close to walls. This makes it an indispensable tool for assessing concrete bridges, buildings, and pavements with high precision.

Advanced Imaging Technology Unlike traditional pulsed-radar units that operate on a single frequency, the GP8800 utilizes advanced Stepped-Frequency Continuous Wave (SFCW) technology. This allows the device to sweep a broad range of frequencies—from 0.4 to 6.0GHz—during a single scan. This wide spectrum operation enables a remarkable penetration depth of up to 25.6 inches (65cm) while delivering exceptionally high-resolution data and characterization with just one antenna.

Key Applications and Capabilities The GP8800 is engineered for comprehensive structural analysis. It can accurately detect and map:

  • Reinforcing bars (rebar) and steel mesh
  • Secondary layers of reinforcement
  • Post-tensioning tendon ducts
  • Electrical conduits and cables
  • Hidden voids, inclusions, and structural discontinuities
  • Slab or wall thickness measurements from a single side

This makes it the ideal technology for structural investigation, as-built verification, quality control, rebar detection, and determining concrete thickness.

Ergonomic and Flexible Design The GP8800 features an exclusive wireless tracking wheel that can be adjusted between trailing and sidecar configurations. This provides outstanding flexibility in cramped environments and is essential for performing cross-polarized scanning. By combining data from two perpendicular scans of the same area, the cross-polarization method significantly enhances the instrument's sensitivity and data resolution. For scanning in extremely narrow areas with as little as 2.5 inches (63mm) of clearance, the battery pack can be removed and connected via a USB-C cable, further increasing its adaptability.

Seamless Integration with Apple iPad® The GP8800 connects wirelessly via encrypted Wi-Fi to the user’s Apple iPad® (running iOS 11 or higher). The GPR Live Pro software leverages the powerful processing capabilities, high-resolution display, and collaborative features of the iPad. This creates an intuitive platform for viewing real-time scans, collecting data, and sharing reports instantly from any location via the cloud.

Next-Generation Data Visualization The system’s data migration processing generates realistic and easy-to-interpret 2D and 3D imagery of the subsurface. Furthermore, it integrates with Apple’s ARKit™ to provide Augmented Reality (AR) overlays. This groundbreaking feature allows users to project subsurface elements onto the real-world environment when viewed through the iPad's camera, offering unparalleled in-situ visualization. A key advantage of this ecosystem is that the iPad hardware and software can be upgraded at any time to benefit from improved performance and new features, without needing to replace the GPR sensing unit itself.

Performance and Power The device can record straight-line scans up to 3,281ft (1,000m), although its ergonomic design is optimized for shorter line scans and defined area scans up to 47.2 x 47.2 inches (120 x 120cm).

The GP8800's antenna is fully self-contained. It is powered by four rechargeable, flight-safe AA batteries, which provide up to 2.5 hours of continuous operation. For extended projects, a standard 5VDC 2A power bank can be hot-swapped for the battery pack, extending operating time to 8 hours. The wireless connection to the iPad offers cable-free operation at ranges up to 65ft (20m).

Available Packages:

  • GPR Live Pro: Includes the GP8800 sensing unit and a two-year subscription to GPR Live Pro software. Also comes with a Wi-Fi module, USB-C cable, carrying case, wrist loop, battery pack, chalk, and two sizes of grid paper.
  • GPR Live Pro Full Package: Includes everything in this package, plus a telescopic rod with a tablet holder for convenient access to hard-to-reach areas.

GPR Live Pro Cloud and Subscription The GPR Live Pro software subscription is essential for unlocking the full potential of the device. It enables 3D functionality, augmented reality, and the ability to share images and data with clients via a URL. All data is securely tracked and stored in the cloud-based Logbook, which also facilitates post-processing and data review from any connected iPad. Every measurement, setting change, and filter is logged, and users can enrich reports with geolocation data, photos, and notes for comprehensive off-site collaboration. A two-year subscription is included with both packages, with subsequent one-year renewals available for purchase (CTA-59).
