The Geovane Soil Shear Strength Tester is a portable, hand-held instrument designed to accurately measure soil shear strength in the field, providing readings in kilopascals (kPa). Built for simplicity and efficiency, this device is an essential tool for geotechnical engineers, soil scientists, and construction professionals who need reliable on-site soil assessments.
How It Works
To use the Geovane, attach the included 19mm vane blade to the base of the instrument and push it into the soil at the desired test location. Rotate the device at a controlled rate of one revolution per minute. When the soil reaches its failure point, the pointer locks in place, allowing you to reference the supplied calibration chart to obtain an accurate shear strength reading.
Measurement Range
- With the standard 19mm vane blade: 0 to 200 kPa
- With the optional 33mm vane blade: 0 to 40 kPa (ideal for softer soils)
Expandable Depth Capabilities
The Geovane's measurement depth can be extended using optional extension rods, making it suitable for testing soil at greater depths. Note that the Adapter is required to connect extension rods to the device.
