Soil Compaction Hammers are sliding drop proctor hammers used for the Proctor Compaction of soil samples. Only Gilson Hammers feature 100% 303 stainless steel construction for maximum corrosion resistance and long service life. Hammer masses are enclosed in guide sleeves with vent holes that ensure unrestricted free-fall.
The heavy knurled hexagonal cap is welded to the tube for a secure, comfortable grip during use and prevents rolling during storage. All hammer models have a 2in (51mm) flat, circular face.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers COE compaction hammers feature a recoil mechanism in the foot assembly to reduce wear on internal components, have a removable/replaceable tamping face and allow for slight drop adjustability.
