The AMS 59006, 2 1/2' External DCP Extension Rod is a versatile and reliable tool for evaluating the strength and density of soil in an in situ environment. This portable extension rod is the most widely accepted method for conducting soil testing, providing accurate results in a convenient and efficient manner.
The dynamic cone penetrometer utilizes a 15 lb. drive mass that falls a distance of 20 inches, striking the anvil to cause penetration of a 1.5-inch diameter cone with a 45-degree vertex angle. This cone, which is seated at the bottom of a pre-augered hole, is driven to a depth of 1 3/4 inches by the blows from the drive mass. These blows are correlated to N values obtained from the Standard Penetration Test (SPT), making the AMS 59006 a reliable tool for assessing soil strength and density.
With its effectiveness demonstrated in pre-augered holes up to depths of 15 to 20 feet, the AMS 59006 offers a flexible and practical solution for soil testing. Additionally, this extension rod can be easily fitted with a plated drive tube assembly, allowing for the collection of 3" x 10" samples in preaugured holes.
Included with the AMS 59006, 2 1/2' External DCP Extension Rod are a DCP sleeved drive hammer, a cone with a 3.8 cm diameter, extension rods, a laminated instruction sheet, and ASTM STP 399 Special Publication. The cone is made of heat-treated material, ensuring durability and accuracy in testing. The zinc-plated components add further protection from corrosion, guaranteeing the long-lasting performance of this extension rod.
Whether you are a geotechnical engineer, a construction professional, or a soil scientist, the AMS 59006, 2 1/2' External DCP Extension Rod is an essential tool for evaluating soil strength and density. With its portability, accuracy, and durability, this extension rod will be a valuable addition to your soil testing equipment.
