Top-Cast is a water-based top-surface retarder, also known as a concrete surface retarder, that doesn’t need to be covered with plastic. It’s available in 12 depths of etch, each color and number-coded for safety and ease.

LITHOCAST Surface Retarder is a specialized chemical solution that delays the set of the surface mortar of freshly placed concrete to allow for decorative finishes and exposed aggregate surfaces. It’s applied to the underlying concrete surface after finishing and after bleedwater has dissipated. It’s a safer and less labor intensive than acid etching and abrasive blasting. By controlling the depth of exposure, LITHOCAST Surface Retarder gives uniform results without fracturing, dislodging or color loss, making it perfect for high quality decorative concrete finishes.

This product is suitable for horizontal concrete surfaces, poured-in-place flatwork, tilt-up and precast panels and most horizontal concrete installations. Not for use on vertical concrete or surfaces treated with shake-on color hardeners.
Fresh Concrete Application

Preparation: Surface must be clean and free of contaminants for best results.

Do not apply curing compounds over the surface retarder or it will not work.

Application: Apply evenly with a sprayer or brush depending on the size of your project to ensure consistency.

Apply to fresh concrete to chemically delay the setting of the surface mortar while the rest of the concrete cures normally.

Keep the treated surface out of rain and wind to maintain the surface retarder.

The surface retarder should only stop the hydration process at the surface, allowing the concrete underneath to cure while allowing the surface mortar to be removed later.
