The tester allows for both center-point and third-point loading configurations. Switching between these two flexural loading methods is simple and fast, requiring minimal adjustments. The package includes upper bearing assemblies for both test types. For third-point loading, the bearing points are set at 6in (152mm) center-to-center. To streamline the testing process, elastic bands hold these upper assemblies in a raised position, allowing for easy placement and removal of the concrete beam. The lower bearing points on the robust load frame are fixed at an 18in (457mm) span and are designed to pivot, accommodating the natural deflection of the beam under load to ensure accurate results.

Loading is applied via a manually operated hydraulic pump connected to the load frame's cylinder by a 4ft (1.2m) flexible hose with a quick-disconnect fitting. The system includes a high-quality, 6in (152mm) diameter direct-reading pressure gauge. This gauge offers ±0.25% full-scale accuracy and is graduated from 0-1,500 psi, allowing for precise and reliable force measurements during testing.

While this portable tester is designed for convenience and rapid evaluation and may not strictly comply with all ASTM/AASHTO specifications for laboratory certification, its results correlate favorably with those from larger, more expensive laboratory machines.
