Calcium Carbonate Content Chamber
The calcium carbonate (CaCO3) content of soils can be quickly and easily determined using this portable test. Commonly used to assess the presence and percentage of calcium carbonate in marine soil samples, the results are expressed as percent calcite equivalent.
This method involves reacting a 1-gram soil sample with hydrochloric acid (HCl) in a sealed reactor chamber. The acid reacts with carbonates in the soil, producing carbon dioxide gas. By tilting and agitating the chamber, the gas pressure generated is measured using a pre-calibrated 10 psi (69 kPa) Bourdon-tube pressure gauge. The gauge is calibrated with reagent-grade calcium carbonate for accuracy. The chamber is made of clear acrylic for easy sample observation and is sealed with o-rings to anodized aluminum end caps, secured by threaded rods and knobs. The kit includes the pressure gauge, bleed valve, and a 20ml cup with handle.
Key Features:
- Clear acrylic chamber for easy visualization of samples
- Durable, corrosion-resistant anodized aluminum end caps
Chamber Dimensions: 2.5 x 5.5in (63.5 x 140mm) Dia. x H
Pressure Range: 10 psi (69 kPa)
Standards Compliance: ASTM D4373
