The DVNext Wells-Brookfield Cone/Plate Rheometer is a high-precision instrument designed for measuring the absolute viscosity of fluids using small sample volumes. Its cone-and-plate geometry ensures accurate rheological data, making it ideal for researchers and developers.
How It Works
The rheometer operates as a precise torque meter, driven at specific rotational speeds. A calibrated beryllium-copper spring connects the drive system to a rotating cone, which is in contact with a stationary flat plate. The sample fluid between the cone and plate creates resistance to rotation, producing torque directly proportional to the fluid's shear stress. This torque can be easily converted into absolute viscosity (centipoise or mPa·s) using pre-calculated charts or by applying geometric and rotational data.
The correct alignment of the cone and plate is achieved through a simple mechanical process, eliminating the need for extra tools or external gauges. The sample cup, which holds 0.5 to 2.0 mL of fluid (depending on the cone used), can be easily removed, filled, and replaced without affecting calibration. It features a jacketed design for connection to a constant-temperature circulating bath, ensuring temperature control from 0°C to 100°C. The system boasts an accuracy of ±1.0% of the full-scale range and repeatability within ±0.2%.
The rheometer comes with one calibrated cone spindle, and additional spindles can be purchased and calibrated for the same sample cup.
