5mm Hardmetal Tungsten Carbide Grinding Ball
Product Overview Tungsten carbide grinding balls are essential tools for sample preparation in Fritsch Planetary Mills. These 5mm balls are placed inside grinding bowls along with the material to be ground. The high density and extreme hardness of tungsten carbide make these balls ideal for pulverizing hard, abrasive samples, significantly reducing processing time and preventing sample contamination.
How Grinding Balls Work The final particle size of your sample is influenced by several factors, including the size and number of grinding balls used.
- Ball Size: As a general rule, larger balls are used for coarse grinding, while smaller balls produce a finer end product. For optimal results, avoid mixing different ball sizes in the same grinding process.
- Ball Quantity: Increasing the number of balls can decrease grinding time and create a finer, more uniform particle size distribution. However, it's crucial not to overfill the grinding bowl. For effective grinding action, the total volume of the balls and sample should not exceed two-thirds of the bowl's capacity, leaving one-third of the space empty.
Material Selection To prevent contamination and ensure efficient grinding, the grinding media (bowls and balls) should always be harder than the sample material.
- Tungsten Carbide: Recommended for grinding very hard or tough materials due to its exceptional wear resistance.
- Mixing Materials: In certain situations, using tungsten carbide balls in steel bowls or zirconium oxide balls in corundum bowls can enhance grinding performance. However, be aware that using dissimilar materials for bowls and balls increases the risk of cross-contamination from abrasion.
Product Details
- Diameter: 5mm
