25lb Stainless Steel Bottom Dredge
Bottom dredges are designed to sample sand, silt, and most non-cohesive materials, excluding hard-packed clay. The 25 lb. dredge sinks quickly and penetrates deeper into sediments. Its bucket has nominal dimensions of 9" wide x 4.5" high x 6" deep (circular shape). The sampler body and jaws are made from 300-series stainless steel, while the arms are crafted from powder-coated carbon steel.
The sampling chambers feature screened tops to allow water flow during deployment, minimizing displacement and shock waves that can lead to sample loss. A two-way mechanism prevents accidental closure on the way down, and the dredge closes when the bottom impact activates the spring-loaded release mechanism. One jaw includes an under lip to dislodge stones or gravel during closure. Upon retrieval, the sample can be carefully released to preserve its original structure, aiding in sediment profile analysis.
