Accessories like transparent pmma grinding jars and balls need to be ordered separately as they are not included with the mixer mill. But they are available to buy.

Overview and Features

RETSCH MM 400 Mixer mill is a versatile and powerful lab tool for dry, wet and cryogenic grinding of small sample amounts. With its compact bench-top design the Mixer Mill MM 400 is perfect for mixing and homogenizing powders and suspensions in a few seconds. The mill has 2 grinding stations to prepare up to 20 samples at the same time. High-performance grinding for size reduction at each grinding stations, mixing, homogenization, cell disruption and cryogenic grinding.

Function Principle

The grinding jars of the Mixer Mill MM 400 oscillate radially in horizontal position. The inertia of the grinding balls hits the sample material at the rounded ends of the grinding jars with high energy and pulverizes it. The movement of the grinding jars combined with the movement of the balls mixes the sample. The degree of mixing can be increased by using several smaller balls. If several small balls (e.g. glass beads) are used then, for example, biological cells can be disrupted. The large frictional impact between the beads disrupts the cells.

The Mixer Mill MM 400 can process various sample materials like tablets, minerals, bones, tissues, soils and plastics. It can be used for dry grinding, wet grinding and cryogenic grinding.
