Equine Shear Strength Tester with Hard Case
Unit includes 0-30 nm (Newton Meter) wrench
The Turf-Tec Equine Shear Strength Tester, complete with a hard case and Equine Foot attachment, is designed to evaluate the surface and base layer integrity of dirt and synthetic horse race tracks, polo fields, and horse arenas. By testing shear strength with the equine foot, it provides critical insights into the stability and consistency of footing, helping ensure uniform surfaces. Proper testing with this equipment helps reduce the risk of injuries caused by uneven footing, which can lead to instability as animals lose or gain footing unexpectedly.
For racetracks, testing at 1/4-mile poles and at points 5 and 15 feet from the rail offers valuable data on the uniformity and consistency of the base material. Ideally, shear strength readings across these areas should vary by no more than +/- 5%. Taking moisture readings at the same test points ensures consistent soil moisture levels, which can impact shear strength. Maintaining a record of soil moisture readings enables comparisons over time. Additionally, performing Clegg Impact Tests in these areas provides complementary gMax readings, further enhancing surface analysis and ensuring optimal footing conditions.
