3/8in Steel Balls for Ball-Pan Hardness Test
These 3/8in (9.5mm) Steel Balls are primarily used in the testing of asphalt binders with a Ring and Ball Apparatus to determine the softening point of viscoelastic materials like asphalt, bitumen, and coal tar pitch.
They are also used in the Ball-Pan Hardness test to measure the abrasion resistance and hardness of granular activated carbon, as outlined in ASTM D3802. During this test, the steel balls are placed with the carbon sample in a sieve shaker, such as the 8in W.S. Tyler Ro-Tap Sieve Shaker, to simulate degradation.
Constructed from durable chrome alloy steel, these balls are designed for longevity and consistent performance across multiple tests.
Features:
- Durable chrome alloy steel construction
- 0.375in (9.5mm) diameter
- Meets requirements for asphalt binder and carbon hardness testing
Meets Test Methods:
- ASTM D36
- AASHTO T 53
- ASTM D3802
