Our Large Soil Box has a 270ml (270cm³) volume and is compatible with 4-Terminal Resistance Meters such as the Miller 400A, the Miller 400D and the Nilsson 400 Resistance Meters.
Miller Soil Boxes can be used for either the 4-electrode method (ASTM G57 Standard) or the 2-electrode methods (ASTM G187 or AASHTO T-288 Standards).
For the 2-electrode method, the two interior pins are removed which changes the multiplication factor from 1cm (for the 4-electrode method) to 0.67cm for the small soil box or 0.57cm for the large soil box. See this link for more details: ASTM G57 and AASHTO T-288 Stand
Features
-
Plexiglas body with rounded corners for easy cleaning
-
Stainless steel current distribution plates and removable brass pins (potential measurement pins)
Critical Dimensions (for 4-electrode method, i.e. the two interior pins are in use): The soil boxes are designed such that the cross-sectional area of the soil (or liquid) sample (A), with the soil box filled level, divided by the separation between the pins (L) is equal to 1 cm.
-
Cross-sectional area = 4 cm x 3.2 cm = 12.8 cm²
-
Pin separation = 12.8
Soil Box Example: M.C.Miller Factory Tap Water
Measured Resistance = 1.97 kΩ Resistivity Value = 1.97 kΩ x 1 cm = 1,970 Ω.cm [MCM Water Conductivity = 507 µS/cm]

The dimensions of the soil box are critical for accurate measurement interpretation, allowing for direct expression of resistivity in ohm-centimeter without the need for additional calculations.
Key Features of Stainless Steel Current Plates
Our soil resistivity measurement soil box is quick and easy to use for both field for buried structures and laboratory applications. Our soil resistivity measurement soil box ensures quick and accurate measurement of soil and water samples, making it suitable for both field and laboratory use. It is compatible with multi-combination meters (MCM) or separate volt and ammeter setups for versatility in any testing situation.
The clear material of the soil box allows for easy cleaning and inspection of samples so you can keep your measurements intact. Rounded corners make it easy to handle and clean, stainless steel current plates for durability and accuracy. This means accurate measurement in ohm-centimeter (Ωcm).
Materials Used in Soil Box
The soil boxes are constructed from high-quality materials to ensure durability and accuracy in soil resistivity testing. The main body of the soil box is typically made of clear plexiglass or strong resin, allowing for easy cleaning and inspection of samples. The clear material also enables users to visually inspect the soil sample and ensure that it is at the correct filled level for accurate measurement.
The current plates are usually made of stainless steel, which provides excellent conductivity and resistance to corrosion. The potential pins, on the other hand, are often made of brass, which offers good electrical conductivity and durability.
The use of high-quality materials ensures that the soil boxes can withstand various stresses in the field and laboratory settings, providing reliable and accurate results. The rounded corners of the soil box also facilitate easy cleaning and minimize the risk of damage during excavation and sample preparation.
The dimensions of the soil box are critical for accurate dimensions, and the cross-sectional area of the soil box is carefully designed to ensure that the multiplication factor is correct. The soil box is also designed to express measured resistivity in ohm-centimeter (Ωcm), a universally accepted terminology.
Overall, the materials used in the construction of soil boxes are carefully selected to ensure accurate and reliable results in soil resistivity testing.
Technical Details and Measured Resistivity
Our soil resistivity measurement soil boxes come in different sizes to fit your testing needs. The large soil box is 1.50” x 8.75” x 1.25”, the small soil box is 1.16” x 4.39” x .94”. The cross-sectional area is critical for accurate measurement, available in 1.11in² (7.2cm²) and 1.98in² (12.8cm²).
The multiplication factor is a key parameter for calculation, available in 0.67 cm and 0.57 cm for accuracy. The filled level is designed for accurate measurement, so you have a consistent basis for your results. This allows for better comparison and analysis of soil resistivity data.
Our soil resistivity measurement boxes are specially designed to keep your dimensions intact, ensuring that you have accurate and reliable results each time you use them. The rounded corners make it easy to handle and clean, while the stainless steel current plates provide durability and accuracy.
One of the key features of our measurement soil boxes is their ability to measure ohm-centimeter (Ωcm). This unit is essential in determining the resistivity of a given soil sample, making it crucial for accurate readings. With our measurement boxes, you can be confident that your results are precise and dependable.
We understand that different testing needs require different soil box sizes. That's why we offer two options: standard and compact. The standard measurement box has a depth of 25 cm, while the compact option has a depth of 15 cm. Both options have a width and length of 10 cm, providing ample space for testing various soils.
In addition to their precise dimensions, our soil boxes are also designed with durability in mind. Made from high-quality materials, they can withstand frequent use and handling without compromising accuracy. The stainless steel current plates are resistant to corrosion, ensuring long-term reliability.
Our dimensions of boxes are also versatile in their use. They can be used for both laboratory and field testing purposes, giving you the flexibility to conduct your experiments wherever necessary. With their lightweight design and sturdy construction, they are easy to transport and set up on-site.
Pins are key to the measurement. Our soil boxes have removable brass potential pins and stainless steel current plates for repeatable dimensions. Resistivity is measured in ohm-centimeter (Ωcm) the industry standard.
These boxes are for use in excavation and construction projects to calculate soil resistivity with the formula: Resistivity = (ΔV between pins) / (ΔI). They are for testing soil, water or other electrolyte samples so they are versatile for ground testing and experiments.
When conducting experiments, it is important to have reliable and accurate equipment. That's where our resistivity boxes come in. They are specially designed for both laboratory and field testing purposes, giving you the flexibility to conduct your experiments wherever necessary.
One of the key components of these soil boxes is their lightweight design and sturdy construction. This makes them easy to transport and set up on-site, saving you time and effort when it comes to setting up your experiment.
But what really sets our resistivity boxes apart is their pins. These pins are crucial for accurate dimensions, as they serve as the connection points between the equipment and the sample being tested. Our boxes for sale feature removable brass potential pins and stainless steel current plates for repeatable results every time.
