Consolidometers measure soil specimens for strength and for estimation of potential settlement of pavements and structures. These fixtures contain the soil specimens in rings and are generally placed in Consolidation Load Frames for loading. Consolidometers either have fixed rings, meaning the specimen ring is fixed to the base, or floating rings, where the ring is supported by the friction of the specimen. Fixed and Floating Ring Consolidometers are available in a range of sizes in both in and mm diameters. Consolidometers are designed to fit Consolidation Load Frames, as well as most other manufacturers' units. With Floating Ring Consolidometers, the ring is supported by the friction of the specimen, and transfers force to the specimen through both the top and bottom.
