Gilson MC-500PR Concrete Compression Machine 500K with Pro-Plus Controller
MC-500Series Concrete Compression Machines have 500,000lbf (2,224kN) capacity to test concrete specimens. These concrete compression machines are designed for strength testing of various specimens, including cubes, cores, and beams. Heavy duty, high capacity units can test 6x12in (152 x 302mm) concrete cylinders or 12in (305mm) CMU blocks up to 14,100psi. Optional accessories and attachments allow testing of different size cubes, cores, masonry prisms and cylinders as well as flexural beam specimens. Meet or exceed frame stiffness requirements of ACI363 for continuous uniform loading, with a robust load frame and high-quality load frames that ensure stability, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards. Designed to test conventional concrete test cylinders and meet ASTM/AASHTO standards. Automatic controllers for more control and automation.
Bottom mounted hydraulic ram applies upward compressive force and is powered by 0.75 hp oil immersed hydraulic pump. First stage uses high volume and low pressure to advance piston quickly. At 135psi pump switches to second stage. Second stage uses low volume high pressure flow to load at 2,000–200,000lbf (8,896–889,600lbf) per minute. Digital control system for data collection and data transfer for accurate analysis and reporting. The printing feature provides a physical record of test results directly from the touch-screen HMI for documentation.
Fixed-height Compression Machine Mounting Stand to place the frame at the best height for sample handling. Lower platen is a rectangular table and precision ground piston with O-Ring seal and Teflon backup ring with polished steel. Upper platen is a spherically seated assembly with 6.5in (165mm) diameter bearing plate, hardened and nickel plated with locking stem for quick change out of accessories. Latchable steel fragment guard doors with high pressure safety valve for protection and to prevent overloading of machine. Pressure bleed hole in piston to prevent ram over extension. Side mounted controllers available with models and can be installed in separate console. Digital load indicators display live load during testing and display live load and rate of load. The mounting stand and machine are portable, making them suitable for both field and laboratory use.Fully welded joints at each corner of the load frame, inside and outside seams welded for durability and test accuracy.
MC-500PRP has larger frame opening to test two-block masonry prisms.

Machine Operation and Control
The Gilson 500K MC-500PR Concrete Compression Machine 500K with Pro-Plus Controller is designed for precise, repeatable and efficient compression testing in any laboratory or field environment. At the heart of its performance is an automatic controller system that controls every aspect of the testing process.
These automatic controllers work in conjunction with a continuous duty hydraulic pump to apply the required load smoothly and consistently to each test specimen – whether you’re testing standard concrete cylinders, low strength concrete beams or other materials. The hydraulic cylinder assembly is on the top crosshead applying load force downward for more efficiency and accuracy during compression testing.
The frame is built with solid steel crossheads and structural steel side members for high capacity testing. This ensures every test, up to 500,000lbf, is accurate and reliable. The machine is compact for laboratory use and durable for demanding environments.
During testing the controller displays indicated load, load, peak stress and load rate in real time. Operators have immediate access to data and specimen performance. Real time monitoring is complemented by data collection capabilities to store and transfer specimen data and test results. With ethernet connectivity, memory storage and direct PC integration users can transfer, print and analyze test data, simplifying laboratory workflow and data management. This compression machine is versatile. Interchangeable platens make it easy to switch between testing different specimen types – cubes, beams – without sacrificing efficiency. The machine can test masonry and other construction materials making it a versatile solution for any testing facility.
User friendly interfaces and customizable testing protocols make it easy to set up and control tests. Built in memory and real time display features give operators complete handling of every test cycle. The machine meets ASTM C39 and is designed for compression, flexural and other testing applications.
By automating the load application and eliminating manual intervention the MC-500PR gives consistent and repeatable test results year after year. Its efficient operation combined with full management and connectivity options makes it a must have for laboratories looking for accuracy, capacity and versatility in compression testing. Whether you’re testing high strength concrete cylinders or low strength beams this machine gives you the performance and reliability you need for modern materials testing.
Testing
We test:
-
Concrete cylinders: up to 6” x 12” (152 x 305 mm)
-
Low strength concrete beams: with optional platens
-
Concrete cubes: with custom machines
We also test:
-
Compression: to determine compressive strength of specimens
-
Flexural: to determine flexural strength of beams
-
Tensile: to determine tensile strength of specimens
With specialized accessories and electronic machines can also measure material properties such as modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio. This allows us to evaluate elasticity and deformation during compression tests.
This makes our machines versatile for any testing needs and gives accurate and reliable results for different types of specimens and tests.
